has been completed and is now ready to be used for presentations!
It was introduced to the public at a Ribbon-Cutting ceremony on April 29
at the Hancock County Fairgrounds. The Soil Tunnel was a joint project
with the Van Wert and Mercer SWCD's and was sponsored by a grant from The
Community Foundation of Findlay, Ohio. It is available for rent by
other SWCD Districts, organizations and agencies. Teachers and groups
in Hancock County which are interested in presentations can contact the Hancock
SWCD at (419) 422-6569.
The Soil Tunnel can
be used to teach about the following topics:

of soil in supporting crops for human consumption
about the
numerous organisms which live within the soil
how man-made
structures can upset the balance of an ecosystem
that soil
is found in layers and that the layers are not always the same size
that each
type of environment can have soil that is different in texture and color
and much more!!
