What will you see?

Held every four years since 1970, Farm Tour 2008 includes stops at diverse agriculture businesses. There are locations that feature traditional farms, including those that raise grain, hogs, cattle and sheep among others. At these locations you will get a chance to see how farms in Hancock County operate. It is a drive-it-yourself tour, so you are free to start whenever and wherever you want and go for as long as you would like, but you must provide your own transportation or find someone to carpool with! There is no cost to visit any of the stops thanks to our many sponsors, but you may want to bring some cash if you would like to sample any of the local foods and beverages available at some of the stops.

There's a lot to Agriculture!

You'll also find out that agriculture is a lot more than just corn, wheat, and soybeans. At Kaleidoscope Farms, they've been growing 10 acres of Christmas Trees for nearly 25 years, so you can enjoy the holidays! Serpent Mound Farm is a great example of conservation practices at work, including vernal pools with hardwood and prairie plantings for amphibian and dragonfly habitat. Stop by and see how many different wildlife species you can identify!

If you ate today, thank a Farmer.

Most of us take our food for granted, but we can thank area farmers for providing us the harvest. You'll see plenty of beef, hogs, and other animals that give us the food we need, and you'll learn about sheep and goats and the important part they play in our lives.

How to get around.

Please check out the Map Page link at the top of this page to see the stop locations and best route. You may start anywhere you like, although we recommend starting at Stop #1 if you plan to see them all since there will be road signs posted marking the route from stop to stop. It's up to you how long you spend on the tour, altough we suggest if you plan on seeing it all at least 3-4 hours.

Parking

Please observe any parking instructions at each site. We are their guests for the day and they are volunteering their day to make this great event possible. Please drive carefully and watch for pedestrians!

Refreshments and Restrooms

Food and beverages will be on sale at some stops. Please make sure to use trash receptacles to help keep the environment clean. Restrooms (portable toilets) will be available at several stops. You can also visit the larger public restrooms at the nearby area county/village parks as indicated on the map.

If you have any questions or need assistance, feel free to call the Hancock Soil and Water Conservation District at 419-422-6569!
